Humans are addicted to immediacy. Blogger Tim Urban (from “Wait but Why”) calls it the “instant gratification monkey.” This monkey lives in the present and constantly wants to pull us away from our big, audacious goals that we have set for our self.
Humans love instant gratification.
You shouldn’t judge yourself for it, because it is absolutely understandable..
We are fed a bunch of crap from marketers & salesman who want to sell their books, their courses, and their products.
You can’t blame them; they want to make money!
Whatever shortcut you are looking for:
Whether it be; a shortcut to success in your soccer career (how to get to the Champions League with the best agent out there), fitness journey (how to lose 10 pounds of belly fat in 10 days), or business (how to make six figures in your first year of business); sorry to break it to you;
THERE IS NO SUCH THING.
Yes, please feel free to google those things, and let me know what answers pop up. Then begin to take actions on those answers, and let me know in a couple of months how you are feeling, and where your life ends up..
I strongly believe that success in whatever field that you are in requires: IMMENSE PATIENCE, DISCIPLINE, PERSISTENCE, HARD WORK, PERSERVERANCE, DEDICATION & COMMITMENT. We can list many other things, but I think you get the point.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A QUICK FIX.
It will take time, a lot of work, and all the things mentioned above.
I get many messages daily relating to this ‘quick-fix’ mentality, and as a society, we need to change the way we think!
Instead, of searching for that instant gratification, and success, we need to start focusing on the small steps, moment by moment, one day at a time.
I believe when we are able to put things in perspective and change our perception on things; we can start to shift our mindset from an immediate (‘let’s buy these pills, and lose 10 pounds in 15 days’) to a more patient one (‘let’s stay DISCIPLINED with our eating, gym sessions, and recovery and lose 10 pounds in 30 days’). I can promise you this mindset shift will do you much better in the long-run, and your body will thank you!
At the end of the day, ask yourself, ‘is life a race?’ What is the rush…
There is no finish line!
If you want to continue getting better; you need to grow each and every day!
If you start to focus on having a slow, steady, patient growth-mindset over a common narrow-minded, instant gratification mindset,
I can guarantee and promise you (HOLD ME ACCOUNTABLE):
You will feel better. (Happiness)
You will look better. (Self-Esteem)
You will move better. (Self-Confidence)
You will perform better. (More Opportunities)
This will change your life! Think about it.
IT ALL STARTS & ENDS IN YOUR OWN MIND!
Y’all know what to do until next time:
Eat well.
Move often.
Do things you love.
Spend time with people you love.
Be nice to people.
Get a fresh cut.
Drink your coffee.
Be yourself.
RICKY OUT!
