Whether you want to play college soccer or professional football, having a highlight video is going to be of massive help to you.
A highlight video is basically an appetizer of you and your play to a coach/agent/scout. It tells people who you are without having to trouble miles to see you play.
In this example, you are the main course š
In this article, I am going to walk you through a step-by-step process on how to make the best highlight video for yourself as a footballer.
Step 1:
Make sure you play for a team who records your games.
Ā If they donāt, itās on you to hire someone or buy a good quality camera and pay a friend or family member to record it for you.
No video? No highlights š
Yes, you need to make investments in yourself to improve yourself and your future. Nothing in life is free (except RicFit content)!
Step 2:
Make a Cover Photo for the Video. Who are you?
-This can easily be made in Canva or photoshop (if you know how to do that).
-Full Name
-Height
-Weight
-Team
-Date of Birth
-Position
-Passport
Step 3:
Make an introduction for the video at the beginning of the video.
The goal is to hype the video up and hype the watcher up to be excited to watch the video (should be 10-15 seconds). This is like an appetizer (why am I always thinking of food analogiesā¦) for the viewer. It lets them know what theyāre getting into.
Your goal is to pick a couple of your best actions (2-3 actions) and slo-mo them.
Maybe the announcer says your name (like below), or you scored a big goal or made a big tackle?
Step 4:
Put your best actions in the front of the video!
-Put the actions that demonstrate your greatest strengths that you have as a player.
Goals? Assists? Big Tackles? Passes?
I would also highly recommend splitting up offensive and defensive actions.
-Make it easy, smooth and enjoyable to watch for the viewer.
Step 5:
Do not put any actions where something isnāt completed (a dribble, pass, shot).
If you play a good pass but the ball isnāt received, thereās no point of showing it.
If you take a shot and the goalkeeper catches it, whatās the point?
If you do a good dribble and lose the ball, thereās no point either.
Show successful, completed actions!

Step 6:
Put actions where your teammates or team completes the action.
Place actions in your video that show you being a key cog and contributor for the team.
Step 7:
Make a conclusion cover.
Where can the viewer contact you if they are interested in you?
It could be the same cover as your introduction, thatās up to you!
Step 8:
The video should be under 5 minutes.
-Realistically, most coaches will only watch your video for 2-3 minutes, and maybe even less.
I wouldnāt waste your time making the video longer than that.
Step 9:
Circle Yourself or put an arrow indicating what player you are.
Make sure the viewer knows what player you are. The circle, arrow or light needs to be very visible so the viewer doesnāt have to search around for you.
I can promise you, if they donāt know who you are within the first 15 seconds of the video, they will shut the video off.
Step 10:
Input a song thatās a good beat and goes with your personality and play.
Make sure you search for songs that are non-copyright/royalty free.
I pay for epidemic sound, but you can search on Google āfree non-copyright songsā and many options will pop up for you.
Step 11:
If you have someone else make the video, make sure you configure the order of things.
I have seen way too many people hire someone to make their video and put all the responsibility on them.
First of all, it will save you a lot of money, but second of all, you need to take full responsibility for your development and future!
Configure the video with all the steps that we’ve talked about above.
If I were you, I would make the timeline (iMovie is easiest) of the actions you want and just have the editor put the circles, and do some slight edits to make it look nicer.
Can You Hire Someone to Edit it For You?
If you want to find someone to do your video, I recommend looking on āUpworkā or āFiverr.ā There are freelancers on there that you can hire for a very very good price.

I actually enjoy working with youngsters and helping them develop and get to the next level, like Matt DeVito from Boston.
We’ve been working together for about 17 months (since he was 15 years old). In that time, he has gained 20 pounds of muscle (9kg) and is now a starter for his high school team (which has been the goal since we’ve started!)Ā Ā
